About ssaspension.co.uk

ssaspension.co.uk is a free educational resource for UK company directors researching Small Self Administered Scheme pensions. It is published by Holtram TLPI Ltd — a professional SSAS scheme administrator registered with HMRC since 2004. There is no paywall, no subscription, and no sales pitch in the articles. We publish what we know because directors who understand how SSASs work make better pension decisions — and occasionally, some of them choose to work with us.

Independent SSAS specialists — director-led pension expertise for UK company directors.

Why We Built This Site

If you have tried to research SSAS pensions online, you will have noticed that useful, plain-English information is remarkably hard to find. Most of what exists falls into one of three categories: dense technical guidance written for pension professionals and actuaries; brief marketing copy on provider websites designed to generate enquiries rather than inform; or outdated articles citing contribution limits and rules from three or four tax years ago. Nowhere on the open web is there a comprehensive, scheme-administrator-written, regularly updated explanation of how SSASs actually work — written for the intelligent but non-specialist company director who just wants to understand the rules before making a decision.

We built ssaspension.co.uk to fill that gap. After more than two decades of administering SSASs for UK company directors, we have answered every possible question about how these schemes work. We know which rules confuse people, where the risks are, what HMRC’s actual position is on the grey areas, and which common assumptions are wrong. Publishing that knowledge publicly costs us nothing extra and serves directors who might never work with us directly — but it also means that when a director is ready to talk to a provider, they know what to look for, and they know who published the most useful information they read.

The trading style relationship:
ssaspension.co.uk operates as a named trading style of Holtram TLPI Ltd. It is not a separate legal entity. Holtram TLPI Ltd is the legal publisher of all content on this site, the data controller for all personal data collected via this site (including guide download forms), and the entity responsible for HMRC compliance of any scheme administered as a result of enquiries generated here. The lockup in the site logo is an honest statement, not a footnote.

What You Can Expect from This Site

We apply the following standards to everything we publish.

  1. Plain English, always. If an article uses pension jargon — Annual Allowance, loanback, scheme sanction charge, expression of wish — the term is defined in plain English in the same article, at first use. We write for directors, not for advisers.
  2. No commercial CTAs in article content. You will not find “Book a Consultation” or “Speak to an Expert” buttons embedded in our educational articles. The only conversions we ask for in article content are guide downloads (so you can keep reading offline) and newsletter signups (so we can tell you when rules change). The commercial hand-off to TLPI lives at the bottom of articles — clearly labelled, never pushy.
  3. Every article reviewed by a HMRC Registered SSAS Scheme Administrator. Content is written and reviewed by people who administer SSASs for a living. We do not outsource articles to generalist content writers and we do not publish AI-generated content without scheme administrator review.
  4. Dated and refreshed. Every article carries a “last reviewed” date. SSAS rules, HMRC guidance, and tax allowances change — sometimes significantly (the April 2027 IHT change being the most material at the time of writing). We commit to reviewing every article at least once in each tax year and immediately when a relevant HMRC or TPR change occurs.
  5. No fee ranges, no provider comparisons. We will explain what to look for in a SSAS administrator, what service levels should include, and what questions to ask. We will not quote what SSAS administration costs. TLPI does not publicise its fees, and we believe it is not in a director’s interest to select a pension administrator based on a headline fee figure rather than service quality and regulatory track record.
